We always feel fortunate to be a part of Vancouver’s tech community — at every meet-up, conference or event, there are plenty of tech nerds just like us who come together to share  insights, knowledge and expertise in a mass collaborative effort to helps us all grow as individuals and as teams. It’s pretty safe to say that we’re always learning from each other and each of us, at one time or another, plays the role of mentor or protege. Plus, we try to make a point of learning from all our co-workers at Invoke.

Having experienced the value of mentorship and of being positive role models to one another, we’ve decided to give back to an organization that seeks to do this on a much larger scale: Big Brothers of Vancouver. We’re pleased to be fundraising on behalf of Big Brothers in the Bowl for Big Brother Classic to meet the organization’s goal of helping 1,051 at-risk children in 2012!

Studies indicate that children with mentors:

  • Develop heightened self-esteem
  • Are less likely to commit or permit acts of bullying
  • Display more respect for adults and peers
  • Are less likely to abuse drugs or alcohol
  • Get better grades and are less likely to skip school
Those are five important reasons why pledging for team Invoke on behalf of Big Brothers is worth your time, effort and financial contribution. We really appreciate all your support in ensuring that the tech community’s spirit of mentorship, sharing and empowerment is passed on to children who can really use the guidance.
