I read a lot. Copious amounts really. So when a really good friend of mine and Invoke’s wrote a book I couldn’t wait till it came out. I’ve still got to wait a bit to get the copy in my hands, but they have just started presales of the book - Amielle has assured me that she will sign my copy.

The author, Amielle Lake, has a background in Finance and Mining, but you will be seeing more of her in Canada’s Tech scene. She is currently the CEO and Founding Partner of Tagga. Tagga is a super cool SMS platform that is currently in a private alpha (so still a little hush hush, but you heard about it here first) - they will be launching their public beta this summer.

Back to her book though, the title is more than a bit intriguing ‘The Elephant Hunters: Chronicles of the Moneymen’. Below is a review of the book:

This title features an awesome, penetrating exposure of the greed, frailty and goings-on of those who determine our lives - the moneymen! The book is unique in that it discloses without restraint the true experiences of financiers from all levels of success and from all parts of the world. It is easy to read and consumable by a general audience. The book holds a universal appeal. While the stories centre around persons in the investment business, their experiences are no doubt mirrored by any person who is truly passionate about their career. The book offers insight into the psyche, tensions and joys of investment bankers, money managers and deal doers; clear expositions of what is sacrificed to win the big deal; penetrating view of the high flying female financier; and, sensitive examination of what people with more money than most ever dare dream of, do with their money. It also offers a disturbing analysis of how money motivates and yet destroys the lives and soul of the moneymen; and original research, into the lives of the men and women of money. Just plain greedy? Intrinsically corrupt? Or victims of the greatest game on earth, that of making money? The Elephant Hunters penetrates the secret world of big deals and investment banking and exposes the psyche and activities of one of the most powerful sects - financiers.

So I hope that got your attention, I know it got mine. If you’d like to get a preorder of the book, check it out here before it sells out.
